During the day, we have prepared a playground, installed benches, planted trees and removeed vegetation that blocks the view of oncoming trains. We also held activities for children.

Background:
Railway tracks cross Arab neighborhoods with no separation from the street, as required in residential neighborhoods. In the absence of safe passages, the people living in those neighborhoods are forced to risk their lives on a daily basis, crossing the tracks. Over the past decade the volume of train traffic has increased considerably, and with it the danger to the people living on the tracks. In three years, 17 accidents occurred on the tracks in Ramleh and Lud, and six people were killed.

Ramleh's Railway Neighborhood is located on the Lud-Be'er Sheva railway tracks. A few years ago, the newly constructed Ramlud interchange effectively locked the neighborhood between the tracks and a highway. Since then, going out of the neighborhood involves walking along the train tracks or the highway margin.

The Railway Neighborhood was established before '48. Some of the houses are public housing, for which the tenants have been paying rent to Amidar for decades. The City does not provide essential municipal services to the neighborhood, in spite of regular payment of municipal taxes, under the pretext that that the land is designated for agricultural use, and that therefore the houses are illegal and the entire neighborhood is marked for evacuation.
