The Monster Has Reached A-RamThe
residents of A-Ram have called upon us to march together on the
route of the wall. On Saturday, December 13th 2003, we marched together
under the banner: "No to the apartheid
wall! And yes to living together in peace!"
The residents of A-Ram have called upon us to join their struggle against the wall. If built, this wall will indiscriminately separate mother and child, the sick from hospitals, the dead from cemeteries, employees from their workplace, and students from schools and universities. This wall will make life on both sides a living hell. The international community has finally raised its voice against the wall, and we showed the world that there are thousands of Israelis -- Jews and Palestinians -- that are also against the wall. Background: A-Ram is located north of Jerusalem. 100,000 Palestinians, most of whom have Jerusalem identity cards, live in this area. Jerusalem is the center of business, educational, medical, and cultural life for all of these people. The wall will surround A-Ram on all sides; in order to enter or leave the town residents will have to pass through gates. The entire area will become one big prison. This new part of the wall will separate A-Ram from Jerusalem and is to be built in the middle of the major Jerusalem-Ramallah road, on the entire length of this central artery: one side of the road will be located in Israel; the other side will belong to the West Bank. The wall will indiscriminately separate mother and child, the sick from hospitals, the dead from cemeteries, employees from their workplace, and students from schools and universities. The wall will make life on both sides a living hell. It is just one more part of the so-called security fence, which will transform Palestine into a series of ghettos and Bantustans; Apartheid-era South Africa will pale by comparison. Through our activities with our Palestinian partners, we demonstrated once again that there is an alternative: there is a partner with whom we can speak! Cooperation is the only path to peace, freedom, and security for both peoples. תושבי א-ראם קראו לנו לצעוד יחד איתם
לאורך תוואי החומה. ביום שבת, 13 בדמצמבר 2003, צעדנו איתם תחת הסיסמאות
"לא לחומת האפרטהייד!", "כן לחיים
של שלום ביחד!" אם תיבנה החומה היא תפריד בין אמהות לילדיהן, בין חולים לרופאיהם, את המתים מבתי הקברות, את העובדים ממקומות עבודתם, את התלמידים מבתי הספר והאוניברסיטאות. החומה תהפוך את החיים משני צדיה לגיהנום.

מרימה סוף-סוף את קולה נגד הגדר.
רקע: א-ראם נמצאת מצפון לירושלים. 100 אלף
פלסטינים, רובם תושבי ירושלים (בעלי תעודות זהות כחולות), גרים באזור זה.
ירושלים היא בעבורם מרכז לעסקים, חינוך, בריאות ותרבות. החומה אמורה להקיף את א-ראם מכל
הכיוונים: כדי להיכנס או לצאת את העיר יצטרכו התושבים לעבור דרך שערים.
האזור כולו יהפוך לכלא אחד גדול. החומה תיבנה באמצע עורק התחבורה הראשי
בין ירושלים לרמאללה וא-ראם תופרד מירושלים: צד אחד שלה יהיה בישראל והצד
השני בגדה המערבית. זהו רק עוד חלק ממה שמכונה "גדר הביטחון", שתהפוך את
פלסטין לסדרה של גטאות ובנטוסטנים. האפרטהייד של דרום אפריקה יחוויר
לעומתה. באמצעות הפעולה עם שותפינו הפלסטינים
הראנו שוב שיש אלטרנטיבה – יש עם מי לדבר, ויש על מה. פעולה משותפת ישראלית-פלסטינית היא הדרך היחידה לשלום, חירות וביטחון לשני העמים.
