העצרת העממית באבו דיס בקריאה לפעולה לא-אלימה נגד הכיבוש

למעלה מאלף מפגינים פלסטינים חברי הקואליציה הפלסטינית למען שלום וחרות, ופעילי שלום ישראלים, ערבים ויהודים חברי תנועת תעאיוש וגוש שלום, השתתפו ביום שבת, ה-27 באוגוסט בעצרת עממית באבו-דיס בקריאה לפעולה לא אלימה נגד הכיבוש, נגד גדר ההפרדה והאפרטהייד ובעד שלום וחירות לשני העמים. זהו אירוע הפתיחה בקמפיין פלסטיני נרחב לפעולה לא אלימה. ביום הקודם הפגינו בראמללה כ – 10,000 איש בקריאה דומה.

המפגינים הביעו הזדהות עם קריאת הפלסטינים למאבק לסיום הסכסוך בדרך לא אלימה וקראו לממשלת ישראל להפסיק את האלימות היום-יומית שהיא מפעילה כנגד העם הפלסטיני, ולהפסיק את הכיבוש הישראלי בשטחים.

בעצרת נאמו ראש הממשלה הפלסטיני אבו-עלא וד"ר ארון גאנדהי, נכדו של המנהיג ההודו המהאטמה גאנדהי ויו"ר מרכז גאנדהי לאי-אלימות, ראש עירית אבו-דיס, יו"ר ועדת המעקב של הערבים בישראל שאוקי חטיב, אורי אבנרי מגוש שלום, נציגת הקואליציה הפלסטינית למען שלום וחרות פדואה חאדר ונציגת תעאיוש- חולוד בדאווי.[תמצית נאומה]

בנאומו חיזק אבו-עלא את ידם של פעילי השלום ושוחרי השלום הישראלים שבאו להזדהות עם העם הפלסטיני בקריאה להפסיק את האלימות ולהמשיך את ההתנגדות הלא אלימה לכיבוש. הוא קרא למאבק משותף ישראלי-פלסטיני ובינלאומי, ולהמשך המאבק הלגיטימי נגד האלימות הישראלית באי אלימות. הוא חיזק את ידם של האסירים הפלסטינים הפוליטיים וציין כי הגדר מגבירה את השנאה והכעס ואינה מקדמת את השלום. 

ד"ר ארון גאנדהי אמר בנאומו כי הגיע על מנת למחות על החומה שמפרידה בין אנשים ועל כך שמתייחסים לאסירים כמו אל חיות. הוא ציין כי הוא נושא את המסר של הסבל הפלסטיני לעולם, וציטט את מרטין לוטר קינג שאמר ש"אי-צדק של מקום כלשהו הוא אי-צדק של כל מקום" ולכן הבעיה הפלסטינית היא בעיה כלל עולמית. עוד אמר כי החומה אינה מביאה ביטחון אלא סבל ויגון. המאה ה – 20 היא המאה האלימה ביותר בתולדות האנושות ואם לא נביא לכך סוף גם המאה ה – 21 תהיה כזאת. הוא הביע תקווה כי יבוא היום שבו אלפי פלסטינים וישראלים יצעדו ביחד למען השלום,ללא חומות, תוך שמירה על זכויות האדם.

Over a thousand Palestinian demonstrators, members of the Palestinian coalition for peace and freedom, and Israeli peace activists, Arabs and Jews, members of Ta'ayush and Gush-Shalom, joined a public meeting in Abu-Dis, on Saturday, 27th August 2004, in a call for a nonviolent action against the occupation, against the separation/apartheid wall, and for peace and freedom to both peoples. This is the opening action of a Palestinian campaign for nonviolent action. the previous day about 10,000 people in Ramalla demonstrated for a similar cause.


The demonstrators showed solidarity with the call of the Palestinians to end the struggle in a nonviolent way, and called the Israeli government to stop its daily application of violence against the Palestinian people and end the occupation.


The following people made speeches: Abu-Alaa, the Palestinian prime minister, Dr. Arun Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma (Mohandas Karamchand) Gandhi and the chairman of the Gandhi nonviolence centre, Uri Avneri of Gush-Shalom, Shawqi Hatib, chairmain of the followup committee of the Arabs in Israel, Fadwa Khader of the Palestinian coalition for peace, and Ta'ayush representative - Khulud Badawi.


In his speech, Abu Alaa encouraged the Israeli activists that came to identify with the Palestinian people in a call to stop the violence and continue the nonviolent struggle against the occupation. He called for a joint Palestinian-Israeli-International struggle and the continuation of reaction to Israeli aggression with non aggression.
 He encouraged the Palestinian political prisoners and stated that the wall strengthens hatred and does not bring peace.


Dr. Arun Gandhi said he arrived to protest against the wall that separates people and that prisoners are treated like animals. He stated that he carries with him the message about the suffering of the Palestinian people to the world, and quoted Martin Luther King['s Letter from Birmingham Jail] - "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." - making the Palestinian problem a global one. He further said that the wall does not bring security but suffering and misery. The 20th century was the most violent century in human history and we do not bring an end to this the 21st century will be like that as well. Gandhi expressed his hope that one day, Palestinians and Israelis will march together for peace, without any walls, while keeping human rights.
