לפני חמש שנים אסר בג"ץ על
השימוש בעינויים בחקירות
השב"כ, אך מאז פרוץ האינתיפאדה הנוכחית, ההתעללות בגופם ובנפשם של גברים ונשים הפכה שוב לנורמה.
יותר ויותר "חשודים" פלסטיניים הופכים
ל"לא אנושיים", שמותר להתעלל
בהם ולשבור אותם. למעשה, העינויים וההשפלות אינם
מתחילים בחדר החקירות – שם הם רק מגיעים לשיאם האיום! הם מתחילים בשורות הגברים שהושבו על
הקרקע כשראשם מושפל ועיניהם מכוסות. הם מתחילים במחסומים, בבתים,
ברחובות - בכל
מה שיש בו היתר לשלילת

אנוש וזכויות אנוש מקבוצות אוכלוסיה מוגדרות, בשם רווחתה ובטחונה, לכאורה,
של
קבוצת אוכלוסיה אחרת.. התנגדותנו לעינויים
נובעת קודם כל מהלב, מהמוסר,
מההנחה שישנם דברים שאסור, בכל תירוץ שהוא, לעולל לכל אחד ואחת! הצגת העינויים כיעילים (לבטחון, למניעת
"פיגועים, לפיענוח פעולות פליליות וכו') אינה אלא מסווה למדיניות המנסה
לשבור
את רוחם של אלה המתנגדים לה ומתייחסת כאל "תת-אדם" או "לא
אדם" למעונים הפלסטינים או למגזרים המוחלשים והמדוכאים בתוך ישראל. היינו כ- 20 מפגינים, נשאנו כרזות, חלק מהסיסמאות היו - כל עצור הוא אדם ויש לו זכויות, היום מענים אותם - ומחר - אותך?, ו - חמש שנים אחרי שבגץ אסר עדיין מענים ומשפילים. חילקנו מנשרים לעוברים והשבים. בצהרי יום ששי, רח' שטמפפר שהוא אזור מעורב של מסחר ומגורים עמוס, רבים ראו את שלטינו ולקחו מנשרים. |

Five years ago the Israeli Supreme Court prohibited the use of torture in interrogations. Since the beginning of the current intifada, the physical and psychological abuse of men and women has again become routine. More and more Palestinian "suspects" are turned into "inhuman" subjects who can be treated inhumanely, in the name of security. In effect, the degradation of Palestinians doesn't begin in the "interrogation" rooms -- there it simply reaches its climax. It begins with the rows of men forced to sit on the ground with their heads bowed down and their eyes covered. It begins at the roadblocks, the houses, the streets -- in all the military actions in which the IDF is given a green light to treat one group of people as less than human, with less than human rights, in the name of the security of another group of people. Our opposition to torture comes first of all from our hearts, from our conscience, from the assumption that some things should NEVER be done to another human being, no matter what the circumstances. The presentation of torture as an effective method (to stop terrorism, to uncover acts of criminals, etc.) is nothing more than a cover for a policy -- a policy based on breaking the spirit of those who are labeled as "sub-human" or "inhuman". The ideology that justifies torture is used not only to violate the human rights of Palestinian detainees. It is also used to justify the degradation and forced confessions of criminal "suspects", who almost always come from the weaker parts of our society. The fabricated "Ma'atz Gang" case, based completely on racism and prejudices against working class, Mizrahi residents of poor neighborhoods, is one example. The same ideology that classifies some people as lesser than others is behind the routine use of violence by police in Palestinian neighborhoods inside Israel.20 of us attended the protest, we held us signs, reading: Every detainee is a person with rights, Today they are tortured - tomorrow - will it be you? Five years after the supreme court ban people are still toretured and more. We handed leaflets to people passing by. On a Friday afternoon, Stampfer St. in Petah Tikva is a busy street, and many saw our signs and looked at our brochures. |
