This coming Friday, 25.2.05, the people of the Salfit region will demonstrate against the fences that steal their lands
Talking about "two states" — and continuing to section the West Bank with fences.
Disengaging from the suffering and the misery that Israel will leave behind in the Gaza Strip, a fenced enclave — and continuing to create new enclaves in the West Bank, through fences, roads, check-points and settlements.
Talking about evacuation of settlements while constructing new ones:
The Sharon-Peres government is leading a large operation of annexation and settlement in the West Bank: thousands of housing units are built in the settlements and their new "outposts" and thousands more are planned: in Gush Etzion — where a the new settlement of "Gva'ot" is planned; in Beitar Illit, in Ma'aleh Edomim (4000 housing units), Alfei Menashe (thousands of housing units), Ariel (confiscation of thousands of dunums), Tsufin (2000 housing units), East Jerusalem (a new settlements is in the making) and more. As the aids of Sharon keep explaining to their critics from the right, the evacuation of 7000 Gaza settlers and three settlements in northern Samaria are meant to save and reinforce the essential - the blocks of settlements in the West Bank.
The disengagement and the Fence are two components of one strategy — of separation and ruling, annexation and confiscation. In one day the government decided on both the disengagement and the continuation of construction of the Separation Fence. The new trajectory has indeed been altered as a result of the popular civil protest in the West Bank and the growing pressure in Israel and the world. But even this trajectory causes confiscation and suffering, which the public relations of the Fence hide, and it is meant to serve the strategy of annexation and theft - especially in the areas of Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Salfit and Hebron: dunum after dunum, fence adding to fence.
Sharon and Netanyahu will not give up Ariel — and the fences around Ariel turn a future Palestinian State into a chain of isolated enclaves.
