WORK CAMP IN THE VILLAGE OF EIN-HUD
August 1-3, 2002
On Thursday through Saturday, 1-3 August 2002, Ta'ayush held a voluntary
work camp at the village of Ein-Hud, together with the association of the
village. In the work camp, as in previous work camps of Ta'ayush
(see Dar El-Hanun, August 2001 and Hirbet al-Watan, May 2002)
- we worked together, Jewish and Arab people, inhabitants if Ein-Hud and
guests - in order to improve the living conditions in a place that the
Israeli government neglects and attempts to send into oblivion, as part
of its general discriminatory policy toward the Arab citizens.
Many people from Ein-Hud and other places in Israel worked day and night in
preparing the camp, and many hundreds of Jewish and Arab people took part in
it, working shoulder to shoulder in solidarity.
Ein Hud is an Arab village south of Haifa that was formed in 1948 by people who were driven out of a nearby village. This village also carried the name Ein Hud. The old village was settled in 1953 by a group of Israeli Jewish artists, who inhabited the houses of the dispersed Palestinians. The Jewish village was given the Hebrew name "Ein Hod". For more than 40 years, Ein Hud was not recognized by the Israeli authorities as a legitimate dwelling-place. Therefore the village had no infrastructure for electricity and telephone and no paved road leading to it, thus suffering from poor medical and educational facilities. In 1992, Ein Hud received the long-awaited official recognition for its existence, yet little has changed since then in its conditions, despite the on-going struggle of the inhabitants to convince the authorities to improve the situation.
The village's population currently stands at about 200 inhabitants.
The funding of the camp partly came from a large fund-raising event that
took place in Kibbutz Ha-Zore'a on 4 July 2002.
In this evening well-known Arab and Jewish artists volunteered to play in
front of an enthusiastic audience of some 500 people. Among the artists:
Ehud Banai, George Sima'an, Dana Berger, Salem Darwish, Sa'id Salamah,
Rawada Saliman, Tamer Nafer and the DAM group

The cultural activities in the camp included a show of the singer Amal Murkus, social activities and activities for small children, including construction and flying of flying-models.
During the work camp we renovated the small house that is used as a primary school of the village. The small house (40 square meters) serves about 40 children, of six different age groups, and its general conditions were extremely poor. The yard was filled with stones and soil that accumulated during the winter. In the camp we painted and renovated the house and created a new entrance to it.
At the entrance to the village, we made a playground for the children of the village, who used to have now no safe place to play outside their homes. We prepared a small playground for football games and installed some playing devices for young children. The devices were located in a green area with new walking paths that lead to them, the breath taking scenery of the sea and the Atlit fortress serving as a natural background.

Getting to Ein Hud: From Haifa and the North: drive along the old
Haifa - Tel-Aviv road southbound, make a left to enter the road to Ein Hod
and Nir Etzion. From the center and the south: on the Tel-Aviv - Haifa
highway take the exit at Zikhron Yaakov, go left at the Furedis junction
(the first junction), take a right to enter the road leading to Nir Etzion
and Ein Hod. When you reach the entrance to Nir Etzion, you should
continue straight up - the road becomes unpaved. From there you will see
signs leading to the work camp.

מחנה עבודה התנדבותי בכפר עין-חוד
1-3 באוגוסט 2002
ב-1-3 אוגוסט 2002 התקיים בכפר עין חוד מחנה עבודה התנדבותי שארגנו תעאיוש
והאגודה השיתופית בכפר. כמו במחנות קודמים של תעאיוש(ראו דאר אל-חנון, אוגוסט 2001
וחרבת אל-וטן, מאי 2002), עבדנו במשותף - תושבי
המקום ואורחיו, ערבים ויהודים - על שיפור תנאי המחייה והשירותים הקהילתיים
במקום שממשלת ישראל מזניחה ומנסה להעלים מהמפה, כחלק מיחסה הכולל לאזרחים
הערבים. עשרות אנשים מעין חוד ומרחבי הארץ כולה התנדבו ועסקו ימים ולילות
בהכנת המחנה, ומאות רבות של יהודים וערבים השתתפו בו, בעבודת כפיים, ביצירה
משותפת ומתוך תחושת אחווה וסולידריות.
עין חוד הוא כפר ערבי מדרום לחיפה שבו כ-200 נפשות. הכפר נוסד ב-1948
על-ידי אנשים שנעקרו מבתיהם בכפר השכן, ששמו המקורי היה גם הוא 'עין חוד'
(כיום 'עין חוד הישנה'). בבתים שהשתייכו לתושבים הפלסטינים של הכפר עברו
להתגורר ב-1953 אומנים יהודים. כפר האומנים היהודי מוכר כיום בשם העברי
'עין הוד'. במשך למעלה מארבעים שנה, לא הוכר הכפר עין חוד על-ידי הרשויות
בישראל כמקום מגורים חוקי. כתוצאה מכך סובל הכפר מהעדר תשתית חשמל וטלפון
ואין אליו דרך סלולה, דבר שמקשה מאוד על הנגישות של טיפול רפואי לחולים
ולזקני הכפר ועל הסעת ילדים לבתי ספר. ב-1992 קיבל הכפר את ההכרה המיוחלת,
אך רק מעט השתנה כתוצאה מכך בתנאי החיים בו, למרות מאבקם המתמשך של התושבים
לשכנע את הרשויות האחראיות לטפל בבעיותיהם.
מימון המחנה נעשה בחלקו מהכנסות של ערב התרמה למען הכפרים הלא-מוכרים,
שנערך בקיבוץ הזורע ב-4 ליולי 2002. בערב הופיעו בהתנדבות אומנים ידועים
בפני קהל נלהב של כ-500 איש ואישה. בין האומנים שהשתתפו בערב: אהוד בנאי,
ג'ורג' סמאען, דנה ברגר, סאלם דרויש, סעיד סלאמה, ראודה סולימאן, תאמר נפאר

הפעילות התרבותית במחנה כללה, בין היתר, הופעה של הזמרת אמל מורכוס, פעילויות חברה ויצירה לילדים, בנייה והטסה של טיסנים, ועוד.
במסגרת המחנה נעשו שתי עבודות עיקריות:
שיפוץ וצביעה של כיתות הלימוד בכפר. המבנה המשמש את כיתות הלימוד הוא בית מגורים קטן של 40 מ"ר (ברוטו), שבשלושת חדריו לומדים כ-40 תלמידים מכל שש כיתות בית-הספר היסודי. למבנה לא הייתה כניסה מרוצפת, המרפסת אליו הייתה פתוחה ומסוכנת לילדים, וחצר המשחקים התמלאה מדי חורף בסחף אדמה ואבנים. במסגרת המחנה צבענו ושיפצנו את המבנה, והכשרנו את הכניסה אליו ואת החצר שמסביבו.
הכשרת משחקייה לגיל הרך. בכניסה לכפר הכשרנו מגרש למשחקי כדור והתקנו מספר מתקני משחק לגיל הרך, שמוקמו עם שבילים מסומנים בתוך חורש טבעי, בשטח ירוק עם נוף מרהיב הצופה לים ולמבצר עתלית.

איך להגיע לעין-חוד: מחיפה והצפון: לנסוע בכביש הישן חיפה תל אביב לכיוון דרום,
לפנות שמאלה בפניה לעין הוד וניר עציון ולהמשיך עד לניר עציון.

והדרום : בכביש תל אביב - חיפה לרדת ימינה במחלף זכרון יעקב, להמשיך שמאלה
בצומת פורדיס (הצומת הראשונה), לקחת ימינה בפניה לניר עציון ועין הוד.
כשמגעים לכניסה לניר עציון יש להמשיך ישר למעלה - הדרך הופכת להיות דרך כורכר.
משם יהיה שילוט שיכוון למחנה העבודה.
