Issawya

The Jerusalem Municipality has recently expanded its demolition enterprise. In the past few weeks about twenty Palestinian homes have been destroyed, and the list of houses targeted for demolition is still very long. One neighborhood/village that has been particularly targeted is Issawya, located 5 minutes walk from the French Hill and two minutes from Hebrew University's Mount Scopus Campus; nine houses have already been demolished and there are demolition orders against many more.
In response, and in order to further harass the Issawya residents, the Israeli authorities have recently blocked off the road entering Issawya from Hebrew University with a dirt barricade.
This represents another step in the escalation within Jerusalem, whereby the Israeli authorities are cutting off Palestinian villages/neighborhoods, punishing whole populations, and creating a political and psychological wall between Arabs and Jews. Ta'ayush is determined to fight against this policy of segregation and isolation, and has planned a solidarity action together with the residents of Issawya.
The action that took place on Tuesday, February 19th, escalated. Since it was not possible to dismantle all of the road block, the 250 Issawya people and activists blocked the intersection near Issawiya and were dispersed by the police with sheer violence. Three activists were injured and taken to the hospital and 4 were detained at the police station in Migrash Harusim.
עיסאוויה, 19 בפברואר
עיריית ירושלים הרחיבה באחרונה את מבצע ההריסות שלה. בשבועות האחרונים נהרסו כ-20 בתים פלסטיניים ורשימת הבתים המועמדים להריסה עוד ארוכה מאוד. שכונה/כפר המועדת במיוחד לפורענות היא עיסאוויה, מרחק 5 דקות הליכה מהגבעה הצרפתית ו-2 דקות הליכה מהקמפוס של האוניברסיטה העברית בהר הצופים. 9 בתים כבר נהרסו וצווי הריסה עומדים נגד בתים רבים נוספים.
על מנת להטריד עוד יותר את תושבי עיסאוויה, חסמו באחרונה שלטונות ישראל את כביש הגישה לעיסאוויה מהאוניברסיטה העברית במחסום עפר.
צעד זה הוא שלב נוסף בהסלמה בתוך שטח ירושלים, בה שלטונות ישראל מנתקים כפרים ושכונות פלסטיניים, מענישים אוכלוסייה שלמה ומקימים חומה פוליטית ופסיכולוגית בין ערבים ויהודים. תעאיוש נחושה ברצונה להיאבק במדיניות ההפרדה והבידוד, ותכננה פעולת הזדהות עם תושבי עיסאוויה.
הפעולה שהתקיימה ביום שלישי, ה-19 בפברואר, הסלימה. מאחר שלא ניתן היה
לפרק את המחסום כולו, 250 מתושבי עיסאוויה ופעילים חסמו את הצומת
הסמוכה לעיסאוויה ופוזרו על ידי המשטרה באלימות בוטה. 3 פעילים נפצעו
ופונו לבית חולים, ו-4 נעצרו במטה המשטרה במגרש הרוסים.
