Commemorating the events of October 2000
convoys and memorial event in Kufr Manda

It has been two years since October 2000
Two years since the killing of thirteen Israeli citizens by Israeli police
Two years since the violent treatment of civil protest
Two years since the beginning of the el Aqsa Intifada
October 2000 saw the culmination of a process, which has since moved on to
the next, more dangerous phase: An attack by the government on the civil
rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel. This attack proceeds in multiple
venues:
The discrimination in national insurance children's allowance,
house demolitions and the spraying of crops, the restrictions on family
reunification, Stripping Israeli Arabs of their citizenship, measures
against political and religious leaders' freedom of speech and right of
protest, the tarring of the entire Arab population as "engaging in hostile
activity", the resurrection of the "center for demographics" and public
acceptance of the idea of deportation, both of Palestinian citizens of
Israel and of Palestinians in the occupied territories.
In the occupied territories, Sharon is leading a bloody battle, which spells
disaster for both peoples. The forces of occupation are meeting unarmed
mass protest with live fire.
Within the green line, the lesson of of October 2000 has not been learned.
The Sharon-Ben Eliezer government is leading an orchestrated attack on
Palestinian citizens of Israel.
Ta'ayush, Arab-Jewish Partnership, represents an alternative!
On the second anniversary of the events of October 2000 we, Arabs and Jews,
assert: Citizenship is a fundamental right. It is not a reward for pleasing
the powers that be, nor is it contingent on "fulfillment of duties".
In the face of segregation, of discrimination and racism, and of the denial
of the Palestinian people's right to freedom and sovereignty.
We assert our right to live here together, on terms of full equality and partnership,
based on mutual respect and on recognition of the rights of both peoples.
Together we express our solidarity with the rising popular protest in the occupied territories.
On Saturday, September 28th, we set out in convoys from Tel Aviv
and Haifa, and Joined the memorial event sponsored by the Higher
Arab Monitoring Committee in Kufr Manda.

It has been two years since October 2000
October 2000 saw the culmination of a process, which has since moved on to
the next, more dangerous phase: An attack by the government on the civil
rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel. This attack proceeds in multiple
venues:
The discrimination in national insurance children's allowance,
house demolitions and the spraying of crops, the restrictions on family

שנתיים לדיכוי האלים של מחאה אזרחית
שנתיים מאז החלה אינתיפאדת אל-אקצה
אירועי אוקטובר היוו שיא של תהליך, שעבר מאז לשלב חדש,
מסוכן ומאיים יותר: מערכה שלטונית נגד הפלסטינים אזרחי
מדינת ישראל והלגיטימיות של זכויותיהם כאזרחים. לכרסום בזכויותיו האזרחיות
של המיעוט הערבי-פלסטיני פנים רבות:
אפליה בקצבאות ילדים, הריסת בתים וריסוס שדות,
הקפאת איחוד משפחות, שלילת אזרחות, סתימת פיות של חברי הנציגויות
הפוליטיות והדתיות ומניעת הזכות לביטויי מחאה, החשדת הציבור הערבי כולו ב"פעילות עויינת"
והכתמתו כ"אויב", החייאת ה"מרכז לדמוגרפיה" ולגיטימציה למגמות של טרנספר —
הן של הפלסטינים אזרחי ישראל והן של הפלסטינים בשטחים הכבושים.
בשטחים הכבושים מוביל שרון מערכת דמים, שסופה אסון לשני העמים. כוחות הכיבוש עונים בירי לעבר הפגנות בלתי אלימות של אלפים.
בתוך הקו הירוק לא נלמדו לקחי אוקטובר: ממשלת שרון ובן אליעזר מובילה מערכה מתואמת נגד הפלסטינים אזרחי ישראל.
אנו, חברי תעאיוש-שותפות ערבית יהודית, מציגים אפשרות אחרת!
ביום הזיכרון השני לאירועי אוקטובר 2000 כולנו — ערבים ויהודים — ביקשנו להדגיש:
אזרחות היא זכות בסיסית, שאינה נקנית במחיר מילוי חובות או ציפיות השלטון.
מול מדיניות ההפרדה, מול האפליה והגזענות, מול שלילת זכותו של העם הפלסטיני לחרות ולריבונות —
נעמוד על זכותנו לחיות כאן יחד, בשוויון ובשותפות מלאה,
הנבנים על כבוד הדדי ועל הכרה בזכויות שני העמים.
יחד נביע סולידריות עם המחאה העממית המתעוררת
ברחבי השטחים הכבושים!
בשבת, 28 בספטמבר, יצאנו בשיירות מתל אביב ומחיפה, והצטרפנו לאירוע המרכזי
של ועדת המעקב העליונה של ערביי ישראל, שהתקיים בכפר מנדא.
