Ta'ayush held another solidarity convoy on Saturday, July 6th,
to the town of Salfit, east of Kufr Kassem.
The convoy's immediate purpose was to bring essential medical equipment -
ultrasound, photospectrometer, computers and auxiliary medical equipment -
to the town's medical center. In these times too, we wished to strengthen
the Israeli-Palestinian solidarity and to point out, through our
activity, an alternative to the circle of oppression, killing and hate.

יעדה המרכזי היה העברת ציוד רפואי חיוני – אולטרסאונד, פוטו-ספקטרומטר, מחשבים
וציוד רפואי נלווה – למרכז הרפואי בעיירה. גם בשעה זו ביקשנו לחזק
את הסולידריות הישראלית-פלסטינית החוצה גבולות ולהצביע בפעולתנו על דרך חלופית
למעגל הדיכוי, ההרג והשנאה.
For many months now, ill people in the Salfit region are unable to reach
the hospitals of Nablus and Ramallah in order to receive adequate medical
treatment. As in other places in the West Bank, pregnant women about to
give birth are held at checkpoints and the condition of chronically-ill
patients is deteriorating. The continuing policy of encircling towns has
turned the Palestinians into prisoners in their own towns. This policy is
an important part in the campaign led by Sharon to undermine the
Palestinian population's hold on its land and its determination to resist
the occupation. This pressure is especially aimed at villages and towns near
the Green Line (regions of Tul-Karem, Kalkilya, Salfit), some of which are
in areas Sharon intends to annex.

ורמאללה כדי לקבל טיפול רפואי הולם. כבמקומות אחרים בגדה, נשים כורעות ללדת
נעצרות במחסומים ומצבם של חולים כרוניים מחמיר. משטר הכתר הנמשך הופך את
הפלסטינים לאסירים ביישוביהם. הוא מרכיב חשוב במערכה ששרון מנהל לערער את
אחיזתה של האוכלוסייה הפלסטינית באדמתה ולהתיש את כוח העמידה שלה. לחץ זה
מכוון במיוחד נגד היישובים המצויים בקרבת קו התפר (אזור טול-כרם, קלקיליה,
סלפית), שחלקם נמצא באזורים שהוא מבקש לספח.
To serve the population of the Salfit region, around 60,000 people,
residents of the region have founded a medical center, intended to relieve
the distress situation and to enable the provision of emergency medical
treatment. The center has been built solely on the basis of funds provided
by the community itself, without any external assistance. Ta'ayush has
responded to the invitation of activists from the community and of persons
from the medical center, and took upon itself to strengthen it by contributing
some expensive medical equipment which are essential to its operation -
an ultrasound machine, a photospectrometer for the analysis of laboratory
tests, and computers.
כדי לשרת את כ-60,000 תושבי אזור סלפית, הקימו עתה תושבי האזור מרכז רפואי,
שנועד להקל על המצוקה ולאפשר טיפול רפואי בשעת חירום. המרכז הוקם מכספי
הקהילה ללא כל סיוע חיצוני. תעאיוש נענתה להזמנת פעילים בקהילה ובמרכז הרפואי
וקיבלה על עצמה לחזק אותו בעזרת תרומת כמה מכשירים יקרים החיוניים להפעלתו –
אולטרסאונד, פוטו-ספקטרומטר לניתוח בדיקות מעבדה ומחשבים.
On early Monday morning of July 1st 2002, just a few days before our convoy,
the Israeli army had invaded the Salfit region, as they have done in other
cities of the West Bank. We heard of searches and arrests being done in the
city. The armed invasion to the occupied territories is done while the
media is silent and the public remains disinterested.
ביום שני, 1 ביולי, לפנות בוקר, מספר ימים לפני יציאתו של המשלוח,
פלשו כוחות הצבא הישראלי לאזור סלפית, כפי שנכנסו לערים אחרות בגדה המערבית.
מן העיר הגיעו ידיעות על חיפושים ומעצרים. הפלישה החמושה לשטחים מתנהלת תוך
דממה תקשורתית והתעלמות ציבורית.
On Saturday, July 6th, 400 Ta'ayush activists entered the village of Salfit, delivered the medical equipment and met with the local leadership.
